Curriculum Transformation Project

The Curriculum Transformation Project (CTP) was created to help faculty members incorporate issues of diversity into their courses, provide resources to aid in student learning about diversity issues, and to support the college’s commitment to diversity. CTP seeks to encourage a curriculum that emphasizes the social construction of race, ethnicity, gender, social class, sexuality, age, disability and culture (which includes religion), while addressing the cause and effects of structured inequality. We believe that incorporating issues of diversity into AACC’s curriculum strengthens our college, enhances student learning in all disciplines and trains students with valuable critical thinking skills.

CTP provides the following services:

Professional development opportunities including our annual Diversity Institute

Faculty study groups which foster discussion of pedagogical issues and strategies in a small-group format

Teaching resources for faculty

Oral history archives for recording the experiences of the AACC community in ways that can be used in the classroom to increase knowledge and inspire discussion

Campus events that highlight and celebrate different cultures

Anne Arundel Community College’s Curriculum Transformation Project (CTP) is modeled after a similar program created by Deborah Rosenfelt at the University of Maryland. Dr. Suzanne Spoor and Dr. Heather Rellihan have adapted the UM program to better meet the needs of our college. CTP is now directed by Dr. Johnny Lew and Dr. Rellihan.
