  How to Apply
(special instructions)

In support of its mission, Anne Arundel Community College offers options for high school students seeking early college experiences.

General Statements for Admission of High School and Dual-Enrolled Students

Many students benefit from beginning their college education before completing high school graduation requirements. Anne Arundel Community College (AACC) offers four distinct programs to support these learners: Dual Credit, Early College Access, Early Admission, and Gifted and Talented.

Students are encouraged to begin the application process at least 30 days prior to the start of each term to ensure that all required documents, placement testing, and course selection steps are completed. See the Admissions Procedures that follow for information on applying to any Early College Access Program.

Dual Credit is a program jointly sponsored by Anne Arundel Community College and Anne Arundel County Public Schools (AACPS). This program allows high school students to take college-level courses that award both high school and college credit. Only students in 11th grade (beginning fall term) or 12th grade may take AACC courses for dual credit. Courses must first be approved by AACPS for dual credit. Students must also obtain consent from their parent/guardian, school counselor and principal through the ECAP approval process, before registering for college courses.

Early College Access Program  (ECAP) is a program jointly sponsored by Anne Arundel Community College (AACC) and Anne Arundel County Public Schools (AACPS). This program allows eligible students 16 years of age or older to enroll in college-level courses while in high school. Eligible Anne Arundel County Public School (AACPS) students, with the submission of an Early College Access Program Funding Request form, will no longer be charged AACC tuition, fees, and for instructional materials.

Early College Access Program (ECAP) for Gifted and Talented is the only program in which students under 16 years of age who have completed seventh grade, or equivalent may be eligible to take college credit or fine arts courses. This program is for students who have been identified as having exceptional academic or fine arts talent. Students who are entering or are currently enrolled in 8th through 10th grades, and who have been formally identified as Gifted and Talented (GT) by AACPS may be approved to participate in ECAP. All participants will take the college’s English Accuplacer Placement test, and the math Accuplacer Placement test, if the goal is to enroll in a math or science course. Recommendations for the Gifted and Talented program are screened by the Director of Admisisons and Enrollment Development and related academic department(s). Applicants must attend a Gifted and Talented Information Session. Applicants seeking to enroll in fine arts courses (art, music, and theater) may be asked to audition or to present a portfolio of their work. The final decision to enroll a student is made by the Gifted and Talented Team.

Other Early College Access Program Participants may qualify to receive a discount of 25% percent of their tuition costs. Eligible students may take college classes that will complement their high school schedules. Visit the Early College Access Program website for more information.

Early Admission - High school students with an unweighted 3.0 grade point average at the end of their junior year may apply for early admission to Anne Arundel Community College with permission from their high school. Requirements for high school graduation may be completed at the college during the summer term following the junior year or may be fulfilled by successfully completing the first year of college. Students seeking early admission should consult with their high school counselors to ensure their planned college program will satisfy the requirements for a high school diploma. They must also follow the procedures listed in this section.

Admissions Procedures - Students interested in Early College Access programs are required to meet with an admission officer and submit the following to the Records and Registration Office:

  • an Anne Arundel Community College application for admission;
  • an official high school transcript or grade report;
  • SAT, ACT, AP, or Anne Arundel Community College’s Accuplacer Placement test scores.
