HLS 236 - Immigration and Customs Enforcement

3 credit hours - Three hours weekly; one term.
Explore the goals and operational components of immigration and customs enforcement-surveying the identification, apprehension and removal of illegal aliens from the United States; including detention facilities and detention management. Also explore human rights violations, terrorism, and human smuggling; narcotics, weapons and other types of smuggling; and financial crimes, cybercrime, and export enforcement issues. Examine how to obtain and analyze the intelligence needed to investigate crimes and enforce laws associated with illegal immigration.

Corequisite(s): CJS 111  or HLS 111 .

Course Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

    • Assess the role, functions of, and coordination between national agencies of intelligence, homeland security, ICE and CBP.
    • Outline the common characteristics and routine actions of terrorists and terrorist organizations.
    • Calculate using graphs and statistics, immigration patterns and its influence on social political and economic conditions in the U.S.
    • Chart the general national and local emergency responses to illegal immigration and criminal activities associated with illegal immigration.
