HRM 240 - Meeting and Conference Planning 3 credit hours - 45 hours of lecture. Study conferences, conventions, expositions and meetings and their impact on tourism. Emphasizes discussion of host venues, on-site activities and legal concerns of meeting planning.
Course Outcomes Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Define the terminology associated with meeting and conference planning
- Explain the history, purpose and organizational structure of convention and visitor bureaus
- List the different types of associations, expositions and trade shows.
- Discuss the role of tour operators and their role in the industry
- Define the process of meeting planning
- Explain the function of host venues
- Define the purpose and benefit of trade shows
- Discuss the impact of the legal and ethical issues in the meetings, conventions and expositions industry
- Describe the negotiating process
