BIO 152 - Biology of Aging

3 credit hours - Three hours of lecture weekly; one term.
This course meets the Biological and Physical Sciences General Education Requirement.

Examine the study of normal aging, the theories that exist to explain aging and the changes that occur in the anatomy and physiology of the human body as it ages. Discuss normal aging processes and disease states.

Course Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to: 

  1. Introduce the terminology associated with the study of aging.
  2. Define aging in terms of its physical, societal, economic and emotional affects.
  3. Briefly review the organ systems of the body.
  4. Describe the changes in each organ system related to the aging process.
  5. Integrate the material covered to critique claims made by “anti-aging products on the market”.
  6. Learn the basics of aging in a collegial, participatory atmosphere.
