EET 193 - Fiber Optics Installer 3

3 credit hours - Three hours of lecture and directed lab weekly; one term.
Learn the theory of operation and function of components found in installed fiber optic systems that include LEDs, photodiodes, and lasers. Learn about modulation and demodulation techniques, LAN architectures and protocols used in fiber optics transmission systems. Apply fiber optic systems knowledge to complete a design project in a real-world scenario.

Prerequisite(s): EET 192 .

Course Outcomes:
At the conclusion of this course, a student would be able to:

1.  Identify cable hardware, various installation methods, and their usage.

2.  Identify safety and record keeping requirements required by electric codes.

3.  Compare the performance of fiber optic, coaxial copper, and twisted pair systems.

4.  Demonstrate the ability to conduct research and obtain the necessary documentation and technical literature to plan a simple optical fiber installation given a statement of work.
