MUS 180 - Orchestra1 credit hour - Three hours of laboratory weekly; one term. Reading and performance of orchestral works selected from the baroque to contemporary eras. Open to all qualified players; an audition may be required. Programs are prepared for college and public performance and are a regular part of the course. May be repeated for credit; a total of four credits may be earned. Lab fee $5.

Course Outcomes: Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Develop an understanding of ancient and medieval music to modern rock and alternative music in terms of gender, identity, and power.
- Develop an understanding of Western music to the music of Asia, Africa, Middle East, and South Africa as a contested terrain in terms of gender, identity, and power.
- Create and articulate a perspective of gender studies and ethnomusicology as well as music scholarship to examine women’s contribution to world music, Western classical music, and popular American music.
