HIS 114 - World Civilizations Since 1500

3 credit hours - Three hours lecture weekly; one term.
This course meets the Arts & Humanities General Education Requirement. This course meets the Social and Behavioral Sciences General Education Requirement.

Explore the past and its impact on the present and the future. Examine global history from the Reformation to World War II to evaluate the networks and interactions that connected Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Americas. Analyze societal changes and continuities in culture, politics, economics, and diplomacy.

Prerequisite(s): Eligibility for ENG 101 /ENG 101A .

Course Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate an understanding of the diverse cultures and histories of major global civilizations since 1500 C.E.
  2. Reinforce knowledge presented in the course concerning political, economic, social, intellectual, and religious systems from 1500 C.E. to present day.
  3. Recognize the impact of natural environments on how and why societies interact and function through the centuries.
  4. Survey interactions and exchanges including trade, migration, and conflicts between different cultures from the Age of Exploration to the modern era. 
  5. Evaluate the impact of global history since 1500 C. E. on modern society.
