ART 232 - Painting 2

3 credit hours - Two hours of lecture and two hours of studio weekly; one term.
Build upon knowledge and skills acquired in ART 131 . Learn composition, form and content while working from a variety of subjects including landscape painting. Lab fee $70.

Prerequisite(s): ART 131  or permission of department chair.

Course Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Build on the knowledge and ability in use of painting tools, supports, and mediums.
  2. Observe safety procedures and best practices in the studio.
  3. Identify and replicate value equivalents into observational information.
  4. Further demonstrate (direct) painting through alla prima block-in methods and (indirect) underpainting methods.
  5. Explore Still Life, Interior, Landscape, Figure, Abstraction, and conceptual approaches to painting.
  6. Critically think about and communicate visual concepts verbally during critique and in response to materials of a diverse range.
  7. Formulate a stance in discussion that is open and discerning about trends in contemporary painting.
  8. Design well-crafted and intentional paintings that demonstrate personal voice.
