ASL 120 - Introduction to the American Deaf Community3 credit hours - Three hours weekly; one term. This course meets the Diversity Requirement.
Learn about deaf culture, history, heritage, American Sign Language and the deaf community in the United States and abroad.

Course Outcomes: Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Make comparisons between Deaf communities in the United States and those in other countries.
- Summarize the development and basic characteristics of ASL including phonology, morphology, and syntax.
- Explain historical attitudes toward Deaf people that continue to impact Deaf communities today.
- Identify advances in accessibility.
- Formulate comparisons between students’ cultural experiences and the cultural products, practices, and perspectives of Deaf communities.
