ASL 121 - Deaf Culture3 credit hours - Three hours weekly; one term. Discuss historical and contemporary perspectives of the American deaf culture using a socio-cultural model. Analyze evolving cultural definitions and discuss the intersection of American and deaf cultures.

Course Outcomes: Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Define Deaf culture and explain different aspects of it.
- Summarize general themes and issues related to Deaf history, Deaf culture, Deaf communities, and American Sign Language.
- Explain the cultural norms and values of Deaf people.
- Describe diversity within the Deaf community.
- Formulate comparisons between students’ cultural experiences and the cultural products, practices, and perspectives of Deaf communities.
