CJS 121 - Police Administration3 credit hours - Three hours weekly; one term. Explore management principles applied to law enforcement agencies, emphasizing both technical and behavioral aspects. Study topics such as planning, programming, budgeting, and the integration of management information systems. Examine psychological and sociological factors influencing police administration through case studies and practical exercises. Develop skills in personnel management, utilize recent technological advancement, and prepare for supervisory or mid-level managerial roles within police departments.
Prerequisite(s): CJS 112 or permission of institute director.

Course Outcomes: Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Identify principals of a police organization regarding management as they apply to law enforcement.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the principles of organization and management as applied to law enforcement agencies.
- Describe the technical aspects of management of planning, programming, and budgeting comparisons within various law enforcement agencies.
- Demonstrate administrative oversight within a law enforcement agency through various exercises involving management information systems used within police agencies.
- Compare the behavioral aspects of management as they are used to justify the psychological and sociological aspects of administration.
- Demonstrate, through a case study, the methods of analyzing police management problems by evaluating and using support concepts from the course’s lectures and study assignments.
- Develop an understanding of the responsibilities of a supervisor or mid-level manager in a police department.
