CJS 219 - Advanced Patrol Operations3 credit hours - 45 hours of lecture. RESTRICTED. Open only to Police Academy Option students. Covers topics mandated by the Maryland Police Training Commission for pre-employment certification as a sworn law enforcement officer. Topics include traffic stops, effective use of patrol vehicle, documentation of traffic offenses and responding to crimes in progress.
Prerequisite(s): Permission of the director.

Course Outcomes: Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Describe the various functions of a police department’s patrol and investigative division.
- Explain the function of various specialty units within the police department.
- Identify and explain what supplemental units and agencies can assist a police officer in a variety of calls for service or police activities.
- Demonstrate and explain the proper use of equipment assigned to a police officer.
- Explain the resources available for a high-risk situation within the police department.
- Demonstrate policing applications with a diversity, equity, inclusive and accepting focus.
