CJS 226 - Traffic and Public Safety

3 credit hours - Three hours weekly; one term.
Covers topics mandated by the Maryland Police Training Commission for certification as a sworn law enforcement officer. Topics include Maryland Motor Vehicle Law, enforcement of DWI regulations, traffic violations and accident investigation and reporting.

Prerequisite(s): CJS 112 .

Course Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Define traffic and public safety.
  2. Give an overview of Maryland Vehicle Law.
  3. Explain the history and structure of traffic regulations and the public safety systems in the United States and Maryland.
  4. Explain various traffic and public safety styles and procedures.
  5. Create and deliver various projects on traffic and public safety.
  6. Demonstrate effective police communication skills in theory and practice through competency in DEIAA.
