CJS 270 - War in the American Experience: Unconventional Warfare3 credit hours - Three hours weekly; one term. Studies the history and influence of American use of unconventional warfare from pre-colonial times to the present. Discusses elite units (Rangers, SEALS, etc.) and their effects on public opinion.
Note: Credit will not be given for CJS 270 and also HLS 270.
Course Outcomes: Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Describe the role of and the influence of unconventional warfare operations on public opinion and culture.
- Review unconventional units in the military.
- Describe various types of unconventional units.
- Discuss the evolution of some of the military units.
- Define the theory and describe the practice of unconventional warfare.
- Explain the difference between conventional and unconventional warfare.
- Convey the theory of unconventional warfare.
- Conceptualize how unconventional warfare is practiced.
- Explain the evolution of unconventional units in the military.
- Review unconventional units in the military.
- Discuss the evolution of some of the military units.
- Characterize the types of unconventional units in the military.
- Describe types of unconventional units.
- Chart unconventional warfare operations conducted during various wars of American history.
- Summarize unconventional warfare from the French and Indian War, through the American Revolution, the Civil War, World Wars I and II, Vietnamese Conflict, Gulf War and Terrorism.
- Predict how unconventional warfare will evolve for future needs.
