DAN 131 - Beginning Jazz Dance 1

2 credit hours - One hour of lecture and two hours of studio weekly; one term.
Introduction to jazz dance and movement combinations. Development of a personal awareness of the body and how its parts can move separately and as a whole to create a form of artistic expression. May be repeated once for a total of four credit hours.

Course Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Develop movement dynamics.
  2. Demonstrate efficient use of the body.
  3. Gain awareness of the use of time, space, weight, and flow of jazz dance.
  4. Appreciate jazz dance as an historic and contemporary art form.
  5. Develop performance skills.
