HLS 112 - National Security Law3 credit hours - Three hours weekly; one term. Explore the transformative changes in national security law in response to contemporary challenges. Delve into the evolving definitions of ‘jurisdiction’ and the increasing significance of national and security law in a globalized world. Analyze the functioning and societal impact of national security laws, while examining the balance between United States constitutional principles and the need for security.
Prerequisite(s): HLS 111 or permission of director.
Course Outcomes: Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:- Define national security law.
- Analyze principles and historical patterns of jurisdiction.
- Analyze the function of mass media and its role in contributing to, preventing and intervening in terrorist activities.
- Explain and assess the application of national security laws.
- Construct a legal defense and or prosecution case for terrorism cases.
- Analyze and articulate possible futures for the evolution of national security law.
- Examine the short and long term effects of national security laws on U.S. citizens, immigration and foreign relations.
