HLS 114 - Maryland and Terrorism3 credit hours - Three hours weekly; one term. Study the potential threats that can affect everyday citizens and practical suggestions for enhancing personal security. Examine the efforts of local, state, and federal governments to combat terrorism. Explore the impact of terrorist threats on local communities.
Prerequisite(s): HLS 111 or permission of director.
Course Outcomes: Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:- Analyze and describe functioning terrorist organizations.
- Define the potential threat to the typical citizen.
- Analyze and describe the historical patterns of terrorists and terrorist organizations.
- Analyze and describe the role of the media.
- Explain the efforts and coordination between local, state and federal governments to combat and respond to terrorism.
- Project future actions to locally combat terrorism.
- Identify response agencies in proximity to personal residence.
- Create a written personal security and protection plan.
