MUS 113 - Music Theory and Ear Training 14 credit hours - Three hours of lecture and two hours of laboratory weekly; one term. A study of diatonic harmony through part writing and analysis of music. Sight singing, writing music from dictation, clefs, intervals and rhythms are studied. Lab fee $3.
Prerequisite(s): MUS 101 or permission of department chair.

Course Outcomes: Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Review and strengthen/mastery of foundational content pertaining to notation, intervals, chords and rhythm patterns. Develop proficiency in the principles of voice leading.
- Develop proficiency in part-writing (SATB texture).
- Develop proficiency in functional harmonic movement and first level analysis.
- Develop proficiency in melodic harmonization.
- Practice and develop proficiency in sight singing (melody and rhythm).
- Practice and develop proficiency in scale, interval, and triad recognition.
- Practice and develop proficiency in melodic and rhythm dictation.
