MUS 142 - Class Piano 2

2 credit hours - One hour of lecture and two hours of studio weekly; one term.
Continuation in instruction of technical studies, scales, chord progressions, and sight reading. Play early intermediate to intermediate level repertoire. Lab fee $3.

Prerequisite(s): MUS 141  or permission of department chair.

Course Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Review and strengthen/mastery of foundational content in Class Piano.
  2. Increase understanding of notation, technique, articulation, and performance practice.
  3. Increase skills in technical work/finger exercises (dexterity and velocity).
  4. Develop proficiency in all major and minor scales.
  5. Increase skills in functional piano harmony: block chords and broken chords.
  6. Increase skills in sight reading.
  7. Performance of selected repertoire: classical, jazz, and commercial/popular.
