THA 122 - Introduction to Stage Design and Lighting3 credit hours - Three hours weekly; one term. Study of basic drawing and drafting techniques needed to create stage designs and an introduction to design of stage scenery. Students also study stage lighting, including kinds of stage fixtures, use of color and planning of stage lighting. Stagecraft (THA 121 ) is not a prerequisite for this course.

Course Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Identify the collaborative role of each designer on a production team.
- Compare and debate the merits of various theatrical designs, visual art, architecture, and advertisements using standard design terminology.
- Combine a variety of visual inspirations for a play scenic, lighting, or costume design using any relevant media (print, internet, found objects, fine art, et cetera).
- Formulate design ideas through the clear and concise presentation of relevant sensory research.
- Develop and recall the vocabulary of words and skillsets to articulately communicate as yet unrealized design ideas.
- Appraise theatrical designs of their own creation, as well as those of their peers, in respectful and professionally productive ways.
