ITA 121 - Italian Conversation2 credit hours - Two hours weekly; one term. Develop skill and practice with spoken Italian. Conducted entirely in Italian. For students who have studied elementary Italian grammar. May be repeated once on an audit basis.
Prerequisite(s): ITA 112 or two years of high school Italian or permission of department chair.
Note: This course is not for students who are already proficient in listening, speaking, reading, and writing in Italian.
Course Outcomes: Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Identify the main idea and some pieces of information in novice-high level spoken conversations about familiar topics and short informational or fictional texts.
- Communicate in spontaneous spoken conversations on both familiar and everyday topics, using a variety of practiced, memorized, and original phrases, simple sentences, and questions.
- Present information orally and in writing about familiar themes and cultural topics using a variety of rehearsed original phrases and simple sentences.
- Combine a variety of grammar structures and vocabulary to respond to a range of novice-high level speaking prompts.
- Formulate comparisons between students’ cultural experiences and the cultural products, practices, and perspectives of Italian-speaking cultures.
