ITA 225 - Intermediate Italian Culture and Civilization

3 credit hours - Three hours weekly; one term.
Study the history, culture, literature and fine arts of Italy. Discuss the influence of artistic and political movements on contemporary Italian society. Taught in Italian.

Prerequisite(s): ITA 212  or four years of high school Italian or permission of department chair.

Note: This course is not for students who are already proficient in listening, speaking, reading, and writing in Italian.

Course Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Discuss the historical foundations of the Italian nation.
  2. Demonstrate an understanding of historical and contemporary poetry, literature, art, and architecture of Italy.
  3. Describe the geography of Italy and its political, religious, and economic practices.
  4. Explain social dynamics in modern Italian society to include.
  5. Present information, concepts, and ideas to inform, explain, persuade, and narrate a variety of topics related to Italian civilization and modern culture.
