SPA 225 - Intermediate Spanish Civilization and Culture3 credit hours - Three hours weekly; one term. Intermediate course covering the history, culture, literature and fine arts of Spain. Taught in Spanish.
Prerequisite(s): SPA 212 or four years of high school Spanish or permission of department chair.
Note: This course is not for students who are already proficient in listening, speaking, reading, and writing in Spanish.

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Discuss the historical events that led to the development of Spain as an empire and country.
- Demonstrate an understanding of historical and contemporary poetry, literature, art, and architecture of Spain.
- Describe the political, economic, and geographical systems of contemporary Spain.
- Explain social dynamics in modern Spanish society including cultural celebrations, marginalized groups, and the influence of pop culture.
- Present information, concepts, and ideas to inform, explain, persuade, and narrate a variety of topics related to Spanish civilization and modern culture.
