HEB 114 - Elementary Biblical Hebrew 2

3 credit hours - Three hours lecture weekly; one term.
This course meets the Arts & Humanities General Education Requirement.

Develop vocabulary and grammar skills for reading and writing Biblical Hebrew. Gain experience in translating texts written in Biblical Hebrew.

Note: This course is not designed to teach spoken modern Hebrew. It focuses solely on reading, writing, and translating biblical (ancient) Hebrew.

Course Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

Use novice-high level grammatical and syntactical elements of Biblical Hebrew.
Read and write Biblical Hebrew at a novice-high level.
Describe the political, economic, social, and geographical systems of the ancient Middle East.
Interpret Biblical Hebrew passages with the aid of dictionaries and concordances.
Discuss the history of translation of Biblical Hebrew texts in Judaism and Christianity.
Discuss ancient Hebrew conceptions of the divine.
