GER 226 - Modern German Civilization and Culture 23 Credit Hours - Three hours lecture weekly; one term Study the culture and civilization of German-speaking Europe in the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. Develop reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills. Taught in German.
Note: This course is not for students who are already proficient in listening, speaking, reading, and writing in German.
Course Outcomes: Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Explain in general terms the modern history of Germany, Switzerland, Austria, and other German-speaking territories after World War 1.
- Describe aspects of the arts in German-speaking Europe in from the end of World War 1 to present.
- Describe German-language societies and cultures in the 20th and 21st centuries.
- Present information, concepts, and ideas to inform, explain, persuade, and narrate a variety of topics related to German-speaking cultures.
