SCI 202H - Research Communication - Honors1 credit hour - One hour lecture weekly, one term. This is an Honors course.
Explore the process of research communication to a diverse audience with a focus on scientific journal articles and presentations at scientific conferences. Critique existing articles and presentations to refine your own list of best practices for research communication. Examine research results to write, edit, and submit a scientific journal article for publication. Design a research presentation to present during the course or at a regional conference in your field.
Prerequisite(s): SCI 201 or permission of department and eligibility for honors courses.
Crosslisted: Also offered as SCI 202 ; credit is not given for both SCI 202 and SCI 202H.
Note: This course may not transfer to a four year institution to fulfill the honors agreement. Please check with your academic advisor for assistance.

Course Outcomes: Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Describe the purposes of the key parts of peer-reviewed journal papers and approaches to writing these sections.
- Create well-structured figures including titles, figure legends, and statistics.
- Conduct a literature review and create a thorough and properly formatted references section.
- Critique peer work constructively.
- Write a research paper containing the components necessary for submission to a peer-reviewed journal.
- Design a presentation on a research topic and deliver an effective oral presentation.
