ART 230 - Art Portfolio Development

3 credit hours - Two hours of lecture and two hours of studio weekly; one term.
Formerly 1 credit hour

Select, edit, document and present your own artwork. Learn how artwork is evaluated by transfer schools and galleries. Prepare for the next step in your academic or professional career. This class has a significant studio component that involves the creation of supporting work for your portfolio. Lab fee $20.

Prerequisite(s): Nine credits of studio art courses or permission of department chair.

Note: This course is intended for students in the Studio Arts AFA Degree in their last year of study.

Course Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of this course, students should be able to:

  1. Investigate transfer schools, internships, and job opportunities to align portfolio content with professional and academic expectations and student goals.
  2. Select, organize, and refine original work to create a cohesive and conceptually strong digital portfolio.
  3. Compose clear, reflective documentation that articulates the concept, process, and intent behind each portfolio piece.
  4. Apply written and oral feedback to improve creative work, demonstrating analytical thinking and problem-solving.
  5. Professionally present a polished digital portfolio using appropriate digital tools, file formats, and multimedia techniques.
  6. Prepare written promotion materials such as artists statements, transfer essays, and resumes to support their visual work.
  7. Prepare for in-person and remote interviews and presentations of their portfolio.
