BPA 172 - Human Resource Management

3 credit hours - Three hours weekly; one term.
Gain an overview of the human resource management profession. Study the roles, responsibilities, relationships, functions, and processes of human resource management from a systems perspective. Discuss specialty areas of human resources to include talent acquisition, learning and development, compensation and benefits, employee/labor relations, and compliance and risk management.

Course Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Explain human resource management from a systemic, strategic perspective and identify the criteria for high-quality human resource management.
  2. Apply the core tenets of the talent acquisition process.
  3. Design human resource programs and systems (compensation, motivation, training, performance management) which would have a positive effect on both employee and organizational performance.
  4. Analyze the impact of external organizations (unions, government, etc.) on human resource policies and practices.
