CTS 222 - Linux System Administration4 credit hours - Two hours of lecture and two hours of lab weekly; one term Formerly CSI 236 - UNIX/LINUX System Administration
Apply Linux concepts to install, configure, and manage open-source Linux operating systems. Demonstrate proficiency with command-line utilities, file systems, and user administration. Analyze boot-up, shutdown, and system processes, permissions, and security controls. Implement networking services, storage solutions, and troubleshooting procedures across multiple Linux distributions. Develop shell scripts to automate administrative tasks and improve system efficiency. Evaluate system performance and resolve issues using diagnostic tools and best practices. Lab fee $2.
Prerequisite(s): CTS 120 .

Course Outcomes:
- Operate and administer the Linux command line to navigate the file system, process text streams, and execute system commands effectively.
- Install and configure Linux operating systems, including disk partitioning, file systems, boot management, package management and software installation.
- Manage users, groups, permissions, and ownership to maintain system security and multi-user environments.
- Monitor and maintain system processes, performance, and log files to ensure system stability.
- Configure networking in Linux, including IP addressing, hostname resolution, and basic client/server services.
- Apply shell scripting techniques to automate routine administrative tasks.
- Demonstrate proficiency in troubleshooting hardware settings, device drivers, and system services.
