MUS 113 - Music Theory and Ear Training 1

4 credit hours - Three hours of lecture and two hours of laboratory weekly; one term.
A study of diatonic harmony through part writing and analysis of music. Sight singing, writing music from dictation, clefs, intervals and rhythms are studied. Lab fee $3.

Prerequisite(s): MUS 101 or permission of department chair.

Course Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

Review and strengthen/mastery of foundational content pertaining to notation, intervals, chords and rhythm patterns. Develop proficiency in the principles of voice leading.
Develop proficiency in part-writing (SATB texture).
Develop proficiency in functional harmonic movement and first level analysis.
Develop proficiency in melodic harmonization.
Practice and develop proficiency in sight singing (melody and rhythm).
Practice and develop proficiency in scale, interval, and triad recognition.
Practice and develop proficiency in melodic and rhythm dictation.
