THA 121 - Stagecraft

3 credit hours - Two hours of lecture and two hours of laboratory weekly; one term.
This course meets the Technology Requirement.

Explore the aspects of backstage theatrical work in a lecture/laboratory setting. Analyze, interpret, and design your own digital technical drafting. Utilize power tools and modern construction techniques to construct modular scenic platforms and flats as well as custom-designed theatrical sets. Classify, install, and operate theatrical lighting and audio equipment.  Lab fee $60.

Note: Recommended to take this course prior to enrolling or concurrently enrolled with THA 180 .

Course Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Apply proper safety procedures and equipment in a theatrical production environment.
  2. Generate new theatrical drafting based on detailed analysis of existing drafting.
  3. Implement fundamental scenic construction techniques.
  4. Employ appropriate operations for backstage electrical aspects.
  5. Utilize fundamental scenic artistry painting techniques in appropriate contexts.
