DAN 201 - Applied Dance: Intermediate Ballet Studio

2 credit hours - One hour lecture, two hours studio weekly.
Receive individualized instruction in developing or refining classical ballet technique. Practice and perform with an emphasis on execution of movement as well as more complex combinations. Lab fee $350.

Prerequisite(s): DAN 112  or permission of department chair.

Note: Course may be repeated for a total of four credit hours.

Course Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Build upon fundamental ballet technique with emphasis on alignment, strength, and extension
  2. Expand movement vocabulary through more complex barre and center combinations
  3. Develop clarity, control, and artistry in adagio, pirouettes, petite and grand allegro
  4. Strengthen musicality, phrasing, and performance quality
  5. Encourage consistency in applying technical corrections and refining individual artistry
  6. Prepare for advancement into higher-level ballet study and performance opportunities
