DAN 202 - Applied Dance: Intermediate Modern Studio

2 credit hours - One hour lecture, two hours studio weekly
Receive individualized instruction in developing or refining modern dance technique. Reinforce movement vocabulary as well as practice and perform lengthier and more complex movement combinations. Lab fee $350.

Prerequisite(s): DAN 122  or permission of department chair.

Note: Course may be repeated for a total of four credit hours.

Course Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Expand on foundational modern dance techniques with an emphasis on dynamic alignment, strength, and versatility
  2. Explore weight, momentum, fall and recovery, suspension, and floorwork as core elements of modern practice
  3. Introduce more complex movement phrases that challenge coordination, endurance, and spatial awareness
  4. Encourage musicality, improvisation, and personal expression within structured combinations
  5. Develop the ability to apply corrections consistently and refine technical execution
  6. Examine the connection between modern dance practice, artistry, and performance presence
  7. Prepare for progression into advanced modern dance study and choreography
