Public Health Professions: Public Health, A.S.

Total Credit Hours: 60 credit hours.
Purpose: For students interested in pursuing public health or health care management and transferring to a four-year institution or gaining personal enrichment.

Entrance/Admission Requirements
Criminal Background Checks and Drug Screening
This program requires the satisfactory completion of a criminal background check and possible drug screening. For complete details, see the Health Sciences section of this catalog.
Degree/Graduation Requirements
Degree Requirements
A grade of C or better in all Public Health Professions Core Requirements is required to progress in the program. Please note the Public Health option requires completion of a service learning assignment/general community service project (PBH 203 ). Students in the Public Health option may also be required to complete a criminal background check.

Biological and Physical Sciences: 8 credits
Computer Technology: 4 credits
Health/Fitness/Wellness: 3 credits
Social and Behavioral Sciences: 6 credits

Program Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this program, students will be able to:
- Describe the fundamental tenets of epidemiology as applied to public health.
- Discuss Healthy People 20/20 in relation to public health planning.
- Delineate the specific professions and contributions to the public health model.
- Analyze health statistics related to targeting unhealthy behaviors and planning strategies for improvement.
- Analyze behaviorist theory in relation to the development of health betterment planning.
- Develop basic strategies for health improvement.
