Visual Arts, Film Studies Option, A.A.


Award: Associate of Arts degree, A.A. (code AA.ART.FILM)

Total Credit Hours: A minimum of 60 credit hours.

Film Studies

Purpose: For students interested in pursuing professional training, transferring to a four-year institution or gaining personal enrichment by concentrating in film study.

General Education Requirements: 31-37 credits


An approved list of general education courses can be found in the General Education Requirements and degree program required courses  section of the catalog. Choose general education courses from the following topics:

English: 3-6 credits


Arts and Humanities: 6 credits


Biological and Physical Sciences: 7-8 credits


At least one lab science required. See General Education Biological and Physical Sciences Requirements  for a list of approved courses.

Interdisciplinary Studies, Computer Technology or Mathematics: 3-4 credits


See General Education Requirements for a list of approved courses.

Students who do not complete a Computer Technology general education course must satisfy the Computing and Information Technology competency requirement with an elective.

Health/Fitness/Wellness: 3 credits

Mathematics: 3-4 credits

Social and Behavioral Sciences: 6 credits

Electives: 5-14 credits


  • Electives (with approval of department chair) 5-14 credits
    No more than 3 credit hours of physical activity courses may be used as electives
