Purpose: Prepares students interested in a career in the healthcare professions. Allows graduates multiple avenues to pursue their interests in the fields of medicine, healthcare, and human services. Students interested in the healthcare professions as a first or second career choice benefit from this robust, interdisciplinary certificate program designed to better prepare students to face the demands of graduate-level health professions education. Students will earn valuable patient contact experience that will enhance their pursuit of graduate level degrees in health care professions such as physician assistant.
The most competitive graduates of this certificate program will be encouraged to apply for graduate level Physician Assistant education through a partnership with the University of Maryland Baltimore by matriculating into their Health Sciences degree program at the bachelor’s and master’s degree levels.
Accelerated Pathway to the UMB/AACC Collaborative Physician Assistant Program
In addition to selection as a traditional post-baccalaureate applicant, those desiring to become a Physician Assistant in the UMB/AACC Collaborative Program can apply without a bachelor’s degree if they progress through our 3+2 accelerated pathway. Successful students in this program can become a Physician Assistant in 5.25 years while earning both their B.S. and M.S. degrees in Health Sciences, a much quicker option for those entering as college freshmen.
Those interested in the PA profession as a second career, who have not been in college for a while and need to refresh their knowledge, or who need to take extra coursework may have the option to progress into the PA program through the rigorous Interprofessional Healthcare (IPH) Certificate.
