Purpose: Start your career as a first responder with the Emergency Medical Technician certificate. The certificate focuses on the fundamentals of EMT training, including control of the emergency scene, patient assessment and management of patients in the field or in transit. Upon successful completion, students will be eligible to take the state and national EMT exams.

Note: The state and national exams have an associated fee. Affiliation with an Emergency Medical Services (EMS) jurisdiction is required to obtain state certification.

Courses to improve skills and prepare for college-level classes may be needed. It is best to see an advisor as you plan your education.

All students must demonstrate eligibility for ENG 101 /ENG 101A . Refer to Academic Regulations on Graduation Requirements , “Certificate Requirements” for more information. 

ENG 101 /ENG 101A  and COM 111  are to be completed during the program. EMT 116  and EMT 117  have options for an 8-week session. Students could complete both in one semester.
