Military and Veteran Education


 

Military Education Opportunities

Veterans, military personnel and their families can find training and academic programs at Anne Arundel Community College designed to meet their educational goals and advance their careers. AACC has programs and certifications that build on experience and are tailor-made for individuals transitioning from the military or changing careers.

AACC is committed to serving the military, veterans, reservists and their dependents and participates in GoArmyEd, the Air Force’s General Education Mobile (GEM) initiative, the Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) and Military Spouse Career Advancement Accounts (MyCAA) [please note that you may need to adjust your web browser’s security settings to view the MyCAA link].

The college offers a variety of services at the Fort Meade Army Education Center for soldiers and their families and accepts military credits for transfer into AACC programs. Active duty military, military spouses and dependents, veterans, reservists and civilians who have base access are welcome. Staff members are knowledgeable about tuition policies and procedures for military and nonmilitary students. The Fort Meade Army Education Center is located at 2474 Ernie Pyle Street, Fort Meade, MD 20755 (410-672-3554).

Military/Veteran Resource Center

Among its many outreach initiatives for veterans, military personnel and their dependents, AACC staffs a Military/Veteran Resource Center on the Arnold campus in the Library, Room 112. The following services are available through the center:

  • Peer support and mentoring
  • Access to computers with printing, copying, & faxing
  • Lending program for books and graphing calculators
  • Referrals to the on-campus Mental Health Specialist
  • Financial aid information & application assistance
  • Lounge area with T.V., couches, movies, internet, coffee, and study tables
  • Support from the counseling office and quick access to counselors
  • Resource workshops to assist veterans
  • Study area and networking area for veterans
  • Disabled Veterans compensation information
  • Meeting area for the Student Veterans of America
  • Referrals to Military/Veteran Support Advisor

Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC)

The Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) area provides an opportunity for both men and women to earn commissions as second lieutenants in the United States Air Force or Army while completing their college degree requirements.  For more information, see Military@AACC.

While at Anne Arundel Community College, students may enroll in:

  • Air Force ROTC at the University of Maryland College Park
  • Army ROTC at the University of Maryland College Park
  • Army ROTC at Bowie State University

Students may apply up to eight credits of ROTC lecture classes taken at other colleges toward an associate degree at Anne Arundel Community College. ROTC credits may be applied only as electives in programs that allow for them.

Military and Veterans’ Education Benefits

AACC has special tuition rates for military personnel and their dependents .  For a full explanation of all available veterans’ benefits please visit www.gibill.va.gov. The Maryland Higher Education Commission has approved the college’s programs for the training of eligible veterans, service persons on active duty and eligible dependents of veterans.

AACC also offers institutional scholarships for students who are in the military, a veteran or a dependent.

Veterans’ Benefits for Workforce Training/Certificates

Veterans with military benefits may be eligible to use their VA benefits for the following Continuing Education and Workforce Development training and certificates: A+ Certification and PC Technician, Craps Dealer, Dental Assisting, HVAC Technician, Mini Baccarat Dealer, Roulette Dealer and Truck Driving.
