Posthumous Recognition

Anne Arundel Community College has authority to award posthumous degrees or certificates. Upon request of a family member the review and determination to award a posthumous degree or certificate will be conducted by the Registrar on a case-by-case basis using the following criteria.
- The degree seeking student has completed 75 percent or more of the required credits with a minimum of 15 credits in academic residency at Anne Arundel Community College.
- The certificate seeking student has completed 75 percent or more of the required credits with a minimum of 50% of the program requirements in academic residency.
- The student was enrolled in classes at Anne Arundel Community College at the time of death or their enrollment was interrupted by their injury, illness, deployment, or other circumstances
- The student was in good academic and financial standing with the college.
- Approval of award by the Committee on Academic Standards.
If a deceased student does not meet the minimum criteria for the posthumous degree or certificate, they may be given formal recognition for studying at the college, such as a Commendation of Attendance.
