CJS 231 - Juvenile Justice3 credit hours - Three hours weekly; one term. This course thoroughly examines, compares and contrasts the juvenile and criminal justice systems regarding the management of youths. Students trace the historical development and original intent of the juvenile justice systems; laws and punishment policies specifically for juvenile offenders; traditional and contemporary sanctions; management systems for incarcerated juveniles separate and along side of adult criminals; long and short-term impacts of incarceration on youths; intermediate and community sentences; and finally, the controversies surrounding juvenile executions in America.
Prerequisite(s): CJS 111 and CJS 113 or SOC 224 .
