ENG 283-The Works of John Milton: Rebellion, Revolution, and Regicide3 credit hours – Three hours lecture weekly; one term. Examine the poetry and prose of John Milton including Paradise Lost. Study the formal elements of his poetry; examine Milton’s biography, especially his blindness and revolutionary defeat; investigate the importance of his poetry in literary history; explore Milton’s writing in relationship to his culture (regicide and revolution, the commonwealth government, and restoration of the monarchy).
Prerequisite(s): ENG 111 -ENG 112 or ENG 115 -ENG 116 or ENG 121 or permission of the department chair.
