IPH 264 - Legal & Ethical Issues for Healthcare Professionals2 credit hours - 30 hours of lecture; one-term. Learn the legal and ethical responsibilities of the healthcare worker, including laws, regulations, and industry standards. Explore the principles of moral, bioethical, and health etiquette as they apply to current healthcare delivery, such as stem cell research, refusal of treatment, living wills, and right to die issues. Study the laws related to death, dying, and organ transplantation. Focus on the legal definition of death, competency, decision making regarding life-sustaining treatment, suicide, self-determination, and procurement and allocation of organs.
Prerequisite(s): HUS 275, IPH 260, IPH 261.
