ACH 122 - Construction Technology 2

3 credit hours - One hour of lecture and four hours of laboratory weekly; one term.
Continue to examine the built environment through exploration of materials and methods used in construction. Apply sustainable design practices commonly found in commercial construction systems, such as masonry, steel, and concrete.  Emphasize construction methods used in structural systems, use of building systems and detailing of commercial construction. Lab fee $40.

Prerequisite(s): ACH 111  and ACH 121 , or permission of department chair.

Note: Typically offered MC and OL; fall and spring terms.

    • Compare the context of the site as it relates to the building design.
    • Distinguish the impact of environmental elements on the building design.
    • Describe the impact of the LEED system and sustainable design strategies.
  • Employ structural concepts to buildings.
    • Generalize principles of structural theory as it applies to building integrity.
    • Classify building systems: structural, mechanical/electrical, enclosure.
    • Model the function of structural members.
  • Classify common building assemblies.
    • Analyze building performance through their component assemblies.
    • Discuss design principles affecting selection of foundation.
    • Distinguish commercial frame systems: floor, wall, roof and building envelope.
  • Recognize communication of the built environment.
    • Create graphic communication through technical drawings.
    • Produce wall sections and construction details.
    • Discuss common document development trends within the industry.
