ACH 215 - Interior Design Standards3 credit hours - Two hours of lecture and three hours of laboratory weekly; one term. A comprehensive study of the key components of the NCIDQ (National Council of Interior Qualification) exam. Intensive review of all critical elements including building codes, space planning, lighting strategies, business procedures, product knowledge and sample testing are included. Lab fee $40.
Prerequisite(s): ACH 203 (formerly ACH 102) or permission of department chair.
Course Outcomes: - Apply accumulated knowledge of Interior Design and Architecture
- Take sample tests to simulate standards exams
- Design various commercial spaces through preset criteria in varied areas of interior design
- Design ADA accessible interiors with preset criteria with respect to accessibility
- Develop a plan to retain knowledge of collegiate studies
- Document in a condensed format key interior design topics
- Utilize former texts as guides and references
- Form study groups
- Be alert to the changing business environment in Interior Design
- Access current periodicals that reference interior design and architecture
- Refer to the internet for resources on changes in the profession
- Consult the IBC (Internatinal Building Code) frequently to remain current
- Interact with certified interior designers and licensed architects
- Demonstrate interior design knowledge
- Review and test frequently to access areas where improvement is needed
- Seek critiques of student work from certified interior designers and licensed architects
- Apply for internships in interior design
- Determine the primary subject matter necessary to achieve certification in Interior Design
- Review sample tests provided by NCIDQ
- Review NCIDQ study guides and reference materials
- Interface with interior designers who have sat for the NCIDQ exam
