ART 100 - Two-Dimensional Design3 credit hours - Two hours of lecture and two hours of studio weekly; one term. This course meets the Arts & Humanities General Education Requirement.
Introduces the theories and the concepts of basic visual design. Through a variety of studio problems, explore composition and color theory as it relates to two-dimensional art forms. Introduces the computer as a design tool. No previous art instruction is required. Lab fee $30.
Note: Typically offered at MC, OF, and OL; fall, spring, and summer terms.
Course Outcomes: 1. Critique artwork regarding content, form and craft.
2. Analyze artwork regarding content, form and craft.
3. Develop technical skills with materials in hand and digital media in student created artwork.
4. Apply spatial concepts in a two-dimensional format, including the use of linear perspective.
5. Apply the elements of art and principles of design in student created artwork.
6. Apply basic color theory, including additive and subtractive color systems and structuring of artistic color wheel, various color harmonies in student created artwork.
7. Apply value (light and darks) in student created artwork.
