ASL 114 - Fingerspelling and Numbers

3 credit hours - Three hours weekly; one term.
Develop expressive and receptive fingerspelling as well as usage of numbers in ASL. Use receptive skills focusing on whole words, phrase recognition, and identification of finger-spelled words in context. Develop speed, clarity, and fluency. Study number usage focusing on cardinal and ordinal systems, incorporating systems, and other independent classes of signs.

Prerequisite(s): ASL 210  with a grade of C or better or permission of department.

Note: May be taken concurrently with ASL 210  with permission of department chair.

Course Outcomes:
  1. Discuss general themes and issues in the realm of American Sign Language (ASL) and the Deaf communities.
  2. Explore the mechanisms of learning and language acquisition through fingerspelling and numbers.
