BIO 105 - General Zoology

4 credit hours - Three hours of lecture and three hours of laboratory weekly; one term.
This course meets the Biological and Physical Sciences General Education Requirement.

An introduction to members of the animal kingdom and their closest relatives. Study how animals have evolved adaptations that allow representatives to occupy all terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems. Students will learn how vertebrate and invertebrate animals are classified and how particular adaptive strategies are important for their survival though an examination of animal form and physiology. Lab fee $45.

Prerequisite(s): Eligibility for ENG 101 /ENG 101A and eligibility for any general education math.

Note: Typically offered at MC; fall and spring terms.

Course Outcomes:

Demonstrate knowledge of the characteristics of major phyla in the animal kingdom.
Demonstrate competency in the scientific analysis of animal classification, structure, function, and main biological processes.
Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the interrelationships between animals and humans based on habitats, ecological roles, and direct impact on humans.
Demonstrate application of the scientific method to develop and test hypotheses
Demonstrate laboratory skills in safety, measurement, observation, and interpretation.
