BPA 113 - Consumer and Personal Finance

3 credit hours - Three hours weekly; one term.
This course meets the Social and Behavioral Sciences General Education Requirement.

Compare theories as they apply to consumer decision making. Apply theories to make practical choices regarding consumer saving, investing and budgeting. Discuss the use of credit, insurance, housing, career choice, retirement and estate planning.

Note: Credit will not be given for BPA 113 and also ECO 113. Typically offered at MC and OL; all terms.

Course Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  1. Apply personal finance principles to make sound financial decisions related to managing resources, credit, careers, risk, investment and savings.
  2. Identify and analyze current economic trends to make sound financial decisions relating to managing resources, credit, careers, risk, investment and savings.
  3. Apply consumer rights and responsibilities to make prudent and ethical decisions regarding personal consumption.
  4. Examine the effects of widespread financial behavioral trends on social phenomena such as recessions, banking crises or stock market fluctuations.
