BPA 174 - Women and Business

3 credit hours - Three hours weekly; one term.
This course meets the Diversity Requirement.

Examine critical issues, attitudes and practices which influence the successful integration of women into business leadership roles. Through readings, case studies, and special projects, explore the nature of gender-related topics and their impact on leadership and business. Study relevant topics including power and authority, legal issues, communication, sexual harassment, traditional gender roles, stereotypes, and time and stress management.

Note: Typically offered OL; fall and spring terms.

Course Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

1.  Describe the historical context and cultural impact of women in leadership roles.

2.  Examine the personal and organizational success factors for the successful integration of women in leadership roles.

3.  Explain the legal issues and risks incurred by corporations which fail to respond effectively to gender issues in the workplace.

4.  Apply critical analysis and problem-solving skills to minimize the risks and optimize the opportunities for integration of women leaders in corporate life.
